Navigating through COVID-19

Updated: March 26, 2020

As the World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a pandemic, Alberta Blue Cross® is committed to supporting our customers through this time of uncertainty. Our top priority is ensuring uninterrupted access to benefits and coverage. We are committed to promoting and protecting the health and wellness of our valued customers.

We have activated our pandemic preparedness plan to ensure we are positioned to adapt to any potential increased prevalence of COVID-19. This includes preventative and proactive measures in support of critical business functions to serve the needs of Albertans while also ensuring the health and safety of our employees. Alberta Blue Cross® has an established and comprehensive strategic pandemic plan as a component of our business continuity plan. Our pandemic planning allows us to stay operational so we can continue to serve our customers in their time of need without risking the health and safety of our employees.

Within our workplace, our preventative measures include moving our entire workforce to working remotely from their homes except for specific critical functions. For those still on site, we have implemented additional measures including social distancing, extra sanitization and disinfection of our premises. We have closed our customer services walk-in counters and our workplaces to outside visitors. We are instructing our employees to abide by all Alberta Health Services instructions including social isolation guidelines and self-isolation for anyone exhibiting symptoms.

With 95 per cent of our claims direct-billed by benefit providers, and our comprehensive online self-service capabilities, we are well positioned to continue providing the high level of service our customers are accustomed to. Utilizing online capabilities provides greater assurance of timely claims processing.

We are all in this together. Each of us has a role in taking precautionary measures to help protect our employees, families, friends and neighbours. As an organization with a strong commitment to the communities we serve, we believe in leading by example. We urge you to join us in doing what you can to help limit the spread of COVID-19, and to extend support and compassion to those in need including individuals who may be at home in self-isolation.

Alberta Blue Cross® is monitoring this situation closely and taking necessary actions. If you have any questions during this time, please do not hesitate to contact us.
